Description

Overview Located in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus, OH, Vertical Village is a community-driven hub designed as a "second home" for local makers and learners. The building's massing utilizes the familiar geometry of a home—iconic "monopoly house" shapes—rotated and merged into a singular, cohesive mass. This intentional use of domestic symbolism aims to lower the barrier to entry for technical education, creating a space that feels welcoming and communal.

Centered around a massive industrial cargo elevator, the building challenges traditional floorplate limitations by housing a vehicle workshop on the second level. The program includes a comprehensive suite of fabrication spaces, including wood and metal shops, a demonstration kitchen, and various studios. To accommodate large-scale builds, the project features integrated indoor and outdoor project spaces, providing both covered and open-air environments for year-round community production.
